  1. Organisation and presentation of the organising company

The Deep Tech Pioneers community and the Global Challenge are designed for deep tech startups or startup projects. Their goal is to promote entrepreneurs working on breakthrough technologies or scientific discoveries in any field and whose applications will lead to positive impact.

Hello Tomorrow is selecting the best projects and provides them with exposure to its international network (including investors and large industrial companies) as well as various perks and services to help them succeed.

The Deep Tech Pioneers community applications are open all year long while the Global Challenge is an annual competition with additional prizes, which is only open to those applying within a specific period.

The 8th edition of the Hello Tomorrow Global Challenge (hereinafter referred to as the “Challenge”), the Deep Tech Pioneers Community and their associated services are being organised by Hello Tomorrow.

  1. Eligibility criteria for participation in the Challenge and / or for a chance to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community

These requirements are cumulative.

Moreover, any participant who wishes to participate in the Challenge and /or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community is required to read the Terms & Conditions and to accept their terms, without restriction or reservation. Each participant agrees to comply with the Terms & Conditions and is duly informed that failure to comply with the Terms & Conditions by the participant will result in the invalidity of his/her participation, and therefore the impossibility for the latter to be awarded one of the prizes offered in the context of the Terms & Conditions, and possibly the engagement of his/her responsibility.

Hello Tomorrow reserves the right not to award prizes to participants who do not comply with the Terms & Conditions or even to recover a prize in the event of discovery of non-compliance with the terms of the Terms & Conditions after it has been awarded, and/or to take the participants concerned to the competent courts for instance to claim remedies for the loss suffered due to the disorganization of the Challenge.

  1. How to participate in the Challenge and / or to apply to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community?

Submission of entries

The process associated with the application for the Challenge and for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community is similar. Indeed, in both cases:

Participants in the Challenge are duly informed that by applying for the Challenge, they automatically apply for a chance to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community as well.

Participants are informed that any communication by them of incomplete or erroneous information or contact details, within the framework of the completion of the participation form for the Challenge or for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community or more generally within the framework of their application, may result in the impossibility for them to participate in the Challenge and/or to in the Deep Tech Pioneers Community and/or ineligibility to participate in the awarding of one of the prizes at stake within the framework of the Challenge.

 

  1. Selection and judging criteria

 A dedicated jury will select the participants joining the Deep Tech Pioneers community as well as the top deep tech startups who will be the finalists of the Challenge and will inform them by email.

Winners of the Challenge will be chosen during the Global Summit held in Paris on March 9th-10th 2024 by a hand-selected international jury, whose composition will be published on the official Hello Tomorrow Challenge website (www.hello-tomorrow.org) and communicated to finalists prior to the Finals.

Jury members usually involve deep tech investors, seasoned entrepreneurs, innovation experts from large companies, journalists or academics (being specified that such composition of the jury may change, depending in particular on the type of project submitted).

To be selected to join the Deep Tech Community or to be selected for the Challenge, the projects will be selected and judged using the following criteria:

  1. Startups selected to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community:

Startups selected to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community are informed of such selection by email. This selection allows these startups to benefit from services associated with the Deep Tech Pioneers Community.

They will also receive 2 free invitations to the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit held in Paris on March 9th-10th, 2024. However, a deposit of EUR 90 per ticket will be asked, and will be reimbursed on the condition that the ticket holder attends the Global Summit. The reimbursement will automatically take place within two months after the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit, this reimbursement being realized on the card used for the payment of the deposit.

  1. For the Challenge:

  1. Step 1: shortlist of finalists established to the jury

The participants in the Challenge are informed that at least one member of every team selected as finalist of the 8th edition of the Challenge must be present at the aforementioned Global Summit for the grand finals of the Challenge. Non-compliance with this requirement will result in the disqualification of the team from the Challenge.

A deposit of EUR 90 per team member will be asked and will be reimbursed on the condition that the member(s) attend(s) the Global Summit. The reimbursement will automatically take place within two months after the Hello Tomorrow Global Summit, this reimbursement being realized on the card used for the payment of the deposit.

  1. Step 2: designation of winners during the Global Summit

  1. In any case (i.e. in the context of the application for the Challenge or for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community)

In any event, any travel, lodging or restaurant expenses incurred by the attendance at the Global Summit are not included in the prizes as described above. Therefore, these expenses will be the sole responsibility of the attendants.

Teams might be asked to participate in media and press opportunities related to the Hello Tomorrow Deep Tech Pioneers Community and/or to the Challenge. This includes, but is not limited to, the following opportunities:

Participating in media and press opportunities in no way, shape or form requires teams to disclose any proprietary or otherwise confidential information related to their businesses and is not mandatory. The Hello Tomorrow Challenge organizing committee agrees to provide consultation to any team, upon request, to avoid such disclosures while participating in press-related opportunities.

  1. Services provided and fees related to the Deep Tech Pioneers Community

Selected startups will become members of the Deep Tech Pioneers Community. Basic membership is free and include access to a variety of free and paying services such as:

  1. Confidentiality

Application data refers to all the information entered by the startup on the application platform (http://apply.hello-tomorrow.org) when applying to be part of the Deep Tech Pioneers Community and/or the Challenge.

While not openly sharing all application data with the general public, Hello Tomorrow reserves the right, without additional consent from the startup, to:

As specified below in the paragraph entitled “Use of personal data”, Hello Tomorrow’s partners and/or clients will use application data, and in particular personal data, for their own purposes (being specified that participants’ email addresses are not automatically transmitted to Hello Tomorrow’s partners and clients but could be transmitted on a case by case basis at the specific request of said partners or clients, and to the knowledge of involved participants). Such recipient of application data will have access to this data as long as they are partnering with Hello Tomorrow.

Hello Tomorrow assumes no responsibility or liability arising from the use of any application data accessed such partners, clients or investors.

Furthermore, winners of the Challenge are informed that some application data might be disclosed to the general public. In this context, Hello Tomorrow is authorized by the participants to use their name, trademarks and logos as business references. In this respect, the Customer grants to Hello Tomorrow the right to reproduce and to use the participants’ name, trademarks and logos, by any means and on any media (for instance, on the website of Hello Tomorrow or on its pages on social networks). This authorization is granted for the entire world and for duration of the authorization related to image rights below.

In any event, it is then recommended that participants do not share strictly confidential information as part of their application.

  1. Authorization related to image rights

By submitting their application, the participants explicitly authorize Hello Tomorrow to use and disclose, for the purpose of the Challenge and Deep Tech Pioneers community and for the purpose of carrying out its communication operations, in France, Europe and worldwide, without any financial remuneration, their surnames, names and images and /or voice (photographs and/or videos) in any format and regardless of the type of media (including Hello Tomorrow’s website and pages on social networks), for the duration of the processing of such personal data as stated in paragraph “Use of personal data” below.

The use of the identity, the image and / or the voice of participants is a processing of personal data implemented by Hello Tomorrow, as described in paragraph “Use of personal data” below.

  1. Use of personal data

Within the framework of the Global Challenge and/or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, Hello Tomorrow, as the data controller, processes and collects personal data concerning the participants / contacts within the participating companies, including employees of such companies, members of the team that carry the projects submitted,… (collectively referred to as the “data subjects”) for the purposes of organizing, managing and monitoring the Challenge, including in particular the awarding of prizes, and the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, and more generally in the context of managing and monitoring its relations with the participants in the broadest sense (i.e. managing, processing and following-up requests and exchanges with the participants, conducting and managing prospecting, solicitation and communication operations, carrying out and drawing up studies, analyses, reports and statistics,…), or the management and monitoring of any pre-litigation/litigation that might arise. Some personal data concerning the data subjects may also be accessed by partners and/or clients and/or investors when they are put in contact with each other by Hello Tomorrow and in order for such partners and/or clients to source startups and offer them business opportunities or funding opportunities (being specified that such access to personal data is not automatic and this connection with such partners and/or clients may take place at the request of said partners and/or clients).

Except when data subject’s consent is required, the collection and processing of these personal data are mandatory for the abovementioned purposes. If such data is not collected and processed, participants will not be able to participate in the Challenge or to apply for a chance to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community (i.e. their participation will not be considered valid).

In a general manner, personal data concerning the data subjects are collected directly from them in the Challenge and the Deep Tech Pioneers Community participation forms. However, these personal data may be indirectly collected from the data subjects (for instance, fulfillment of the aforementioned forms by the one who submits the application and who indicates personal information related to the members of the team or information freely available on LinkedIn).

The personal data processed are: 

The collection and processing of such personal data are in principle necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by Hello Tomorrow, in particular in order ensure the management and follow-up of the Challenge and of the selection of  the Deep Tech Pioneers, including in particular the management and follow-up of the selection of the winners, finalists, and more generally selected startups, or the allocation and distribution of the prizes, and more generally of the relationships with the participants. However, the processing and collection of their image and/or the voice require the consent of data subjects.

Personal data concerning the data subjects collected during the Challenge or in the context of selection for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community shall be kept in an active database for up to thirty-six (36) months from the last contact with Hello Tomorrow (on-line request, e-mail or postal correspondence, telephone call, click in an e-mail sent to the data subject by Hello Tomorrow, etc.) and they shall be kept afterwards in the form or archives for six (6) years for administrative and/or evidentiary purposes (subject to possible longer retention periods in the event of pre-litigation/litigation that may arise or legal obligations that are imposed on Hello Tomorrow with respect to certain accounting or tax documents and associated supporting documents that must be kept for ten (10) years).

Personal data can be accessed by the services and personnel of Hello Tomorrow authorized to have knowledge of it. Hello Tomorrow may also share personal data with its subcontractors and service providers in relation to the Global Challenge and the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, with its partners, with its license holders (i.e. companies with a license granted by Hello Tomorrow), with its clients, and with jury members. Personal data can also be transmitted, if necessary, to the services or entities in charge of the control (auditor, services or entities in charge of the internal or external procedures of control, organizations authorized to carry out controls,. .), to advisors (legal, financial, accounting, etc.), or to the insurers of Hello Tomorrow, each insofar as it is concerned, and possibly to court officers, ministerial officers and, where applicable, to the competent administrative or judicial jurisdictions or authorities, within the framework of any pre-litigation / litigation that may arise. Concerning personal data that are authorized to be disclosed on Hello Tomorrow’s website or pages on social networks, they can be accessed by the general public.

Some of these recipients may be located outside the European Union. Hello Tomorrow will carry out such transfers only where Hello Tomorrow has a lawful basis to do so, including to a recipient who is: (i) in a country which provides an adequate level of protection for personal data; or (ii) under an agreement that meets the European Union requirements for such transfer of personal data to recipients outside the European Union (in particular by concluding appropriate standard contractual clauses).
A copy of the reference documents which are mentioned in this paragraph may be obtained (excluding any commercial information deemed to be sensitive, confidential or covered by business secrecy) from the contact person mentioned in the paragraph below.

In accordance with the applicable laws and in particular with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), each data subject has, under the conditions defined by the provisions applicable to the processing of personal data, the right to request access to personal data, the right to obtain rectification or erasure of personal data, the right to obtain restriction of processing of personal data, the right to object to processing of personal data, the right to withdraw consent without detriment, the right to data portability and the right to give post mortem directives. The entrant has also the right to file a complaint with the competent supervisory authority: the “Commission Nationale Informatique et Liberté” (CNIL) in France.

Finally, each entrant undertakes, and guarantees Hello Tomorrow, to inform all of the data subjects to whom it is attached (in particular members of its staff or service providers acting on its behalf) whose personal data are or may be processed by Hello Tomorrow for the aforementioned purposes, of the information relating to the processing carried out by Hello Tomorrow, including all of the elements set out above.

  1.  Intellectual property

By submitting an application to the Challenge and/or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, the participants assure that they have all right, title and/or interest in the application submitted and that the information it contains is accurate and complete, and that by submitting the document and all elements related to their projects to the Hello Tomorrow Challenge, they are not and will not be violating any contract or third party rights including any patent, copyright, trade secret, proprietary or confidential information, trademark, publicity or privacy right.  This could mean that they created the technology, that the patent is in their name, or that they have the explicit (i.e. written) permission of the person or organization that owns the intellectual property. Any team that violates this will be automatically disqualified from the contest.

Before submitting entries, the Hello Tomorrow Challenge organizing committee urges participants to confirm with appropriate advisors or legal counsel that any intellectual property described in their presentation of their projects is protected; i.e., by appropriate intellectual property filings, notices, (patent, copyright, etc.) by the owning institution and/or individuals.

Participants release Hello Tomorrow from any claim linked with intellectual property assets communicated in the context of the Challenge and / or the Deep Techn Pioneers Community.

By participating to the Challenge and/or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, each participant assigns to Hello Tomorrow the right to use, to copy, to reproduce, to adapt or to represent all elements submitted, by any means and on any media, in order to organise the Challenge and the selection for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community.

  1. Fraud

Participants agree not to undermine or attempt to undermine the proper functioning or security of the Challenge and/or of the Deep Tech Pioneers Community and, more generally, not to take any action or perform any maneuver or act of malice to this end or with a view to circumventing or attempting to circumvent the requirements and/or stipulations of the Terms & Conditions. In particular, participants agree not to use any device or software of any kind that would have the effect or purpose of disrupting, interfering with or interrupting the normal operation or security of the Challenge and/or of the Deep Tech Pioneers Community (virus, malicious code or any other harmful agent, logical infection or technology harmful to participation).

Hello Tomorrow may cancel all or part of the Challenge and/or of the selection to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community if it appears that fraud has occurred or is suspected in any form whatsoever, including computer fraud.

In addition, any fraud or attempted fraud, or more generally any failure to comply with these Terms & Conditions, on the part of a participant will result in the invalidity of his/her participation, and therefore the impossibility for the latter to be awarded one of the prizes, and possibly the incurrence of his/her liability.

Indeed, Hello Tomorrow reserves the right to cancel at any time and without prior notice the participation of any participant who would be considered as a fraud or who would not have complied with the Terms & Conditions, and the participant concerned will therefore not be eligible to be awarded one of the prizes offered in the context of the Challenge and/or to join the Deep Tech Pioneers Community.

  1. Liability

The liability of Hello Tomorrow is limited to direct damages incurred in connection with the organization of the Challenge and the awarding of the prize to the winners of the Challenge and/or in connection with the selection for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community.

The liability of Hello Tomorrow may not be incurred in the event that it fails, for any reason whatsoever to contact a winner in order to inform him or her of his or her prize or if a winner could not participate in the Global Summit for one of the reasons set forth in the Terms & Condition or for any other reason beyond the control of Hello Tomorrow (for example, if the winner shows up late to participate in the Global Summit).

In addition, Hello Tomorrow may not in any event be held liable for any unavailability or malfunctions, bugs, incidents, breakdowns or difficulties encountered in connection with participation in the Challenge and / or with application for the Deep Tech Pioneers Community that are directly or indirectly related to

Furthermore, Hello Tomorrow shall in no case be liable for damages suffered by a participant in the event of force majeure, as defined by the French Civil Code but also as usually recognized by the jurisprudence of the French courts.

  1. Availability of the Terms & Conditions


The Terms & Conditions are available to all applicants on the website
www.hello-tomorrow.org; they shall be communicated to any person who makes such a request by email to contact@hello-tomorrow.org.

  1. Governing Law and dispute resolution

The Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of France.

In the event of a legal dispute concerning the Challenge and/or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, the applicants and Hello Tomorrow agree to make their best efforts to reach an amicable settlement.


In the absence of amicable resolution, the French courts shall have sole jurisdiction to hear any disputes arising from the application or the interpretation of the Terms & Conditions and/or concerning Challenge and/or the Deep Tech Pioneers Community, being specified that, when the participant is a merchant within the meaning of article l121-1 of the French commercial code, the dispute will be under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Paris, notwithstanding plurality of defendants or the introduction of third parties, even for emergency procedures or for protective procedures, by referee or by petition.
